How might corporations improve a community?

The effects of corporations on our society obviously aren't all bad. Other than producing goods and providing services that we value, in what ways do corporations have a positive affect on our society?

    Corporations can purchase green space in a community that could then be preserved from further development.

    Corporations can purchase technological and other material resources in order to support schools.

    Corporations can invest in education to develop a stronger workforce in a community. This is done in the 3rd world. In tech. US companies invested heavily in colleges/scholarships in tech industry in the late 90's in India so that they could leverage those high unemployment/low cost markets. Bringing thousands of people into the middle class.
